At Elm House we strive to avoid the need to extract a tooth, however, certain conditions such as severe infection, serious decay or overcrowding may make extraction the best option for your smile. If regular restorations fail to save your tooth, your dentist will extract the tooth to protect the health and function of your remaining healthy teeth.
Sometimes, a child’s permanent teeth may erupt in front of or behind their milk teeth. When this occurs, the permanent teeth fail to push the milk teeth out, leaving both sets present in the mouth. In this case, the milk teeth will be extracted.
These issues can be treated with a simple extraction. Your dentist will apply a local anaesthetic and remove the tooth from the socket gently, with a pair of forceps.
In some cases, you may require what is known as a “complex extraction.” This procedure may be necessary if you have an impacted wisdom tooth or any other kind of problem tooth hidden beneath the gum line.
A complex extraction requires the removal of a small amount of gum and sometimes bone tissue to access the tooth. Once they have successfully removed the tooth, the dentist will stitch your gums closed to aid healing.
After your tooth extraction, your dentist will provide you with detailed care instructions to ensure the socket heals quickly and correctly. It is crucial you follow their advice to avoid potential complications.

Very pleased with Elm Dental Surgery! For over 10 years - excellent care. Professional and Friendly
I've been scared of the dentist for a very long time, but toothache forced me to make an appointment. A friend recommended Elm House to me and I'm so glad she did. The dentist I saw today was so patient and kind, explaining everything perfectly. Actually all the staff were great, including the receptionists. I will definitely go back and I will be recommending to my friends and family. Thank you Elm House, my faith has been restored.
