Mouth Cancer Screening

As well as checking for dental issues like tooth decay and gum disease, we also monitor our patients for early signs of mouth cancer during their routine check-ups.

Males over 40 are at greatest risk of developing mouth cancer, particularly those who smoke or and drink alcohol.  However, mouth cancer can affect anyone of any age, gender, and ethnicity.

The early signs of mouth cancer can include:

• Unexplained lumps or bumps in the mouth or neck
• Red or white patches anywhere in the mouth
• Persistent mouth sores that may bleed
• Numbness in the lips or tongue
• Loosening of the teeth
• Changes in your speech

A cancerous growth can develop anywhere in the mouth, including the tongue, lips, and gums. Your dentist will visually and physically examine your mouth, neck, and head for anything suspicious, giving you peace of mind.
